Doors Open to a Brighter Centre for Youth

30 September 2025 – After months of planning and renovation, Taiohi Tūrama – Rotorua Centre for Youth has officially opened its newly refurbished youth spaces today at 6 Te Ngae Road, Rotorua. The multi-use facility provides a safe space and a wide range of services and programmes for Rotorua young people aged 12-24 years-old.

The newly refurbished space features a lounging area, music equipment and karaoke, stage area, quiet room/library, gaming areas, arcade games, pool table, table tennis, dance studio, café and more.

Taiohi Tūrama is a Youth One Stop Shop with a vision that all Rotorua young people reach their full potential. The focus is on the delivery of services, programmes and activities that build on the strengths and skills of young people, with youth voice and participation at the centre.

“Having a space where young people feel can have fun and feel safe is really important,” says Jen Murray, CEO of Taiohi Tūrama. “This project is a direct result of young people's voices being heard. They were at the heart of the design process, ensuring the centre truly meets their needs."

Taiohi Tūrama aims to strengthen the community by providing positive opportunities and support for youth.  “It’s about fostering community, building connections, and supporting the wellbeing of our young people and we are thrilled to be able to offer this incredible new space to the young people of Rotorua,” added Ms Murray. “This project was made possible through the generous funding from Red Stag Timber, we are so grateful for their amazing support”.

Taiohi Tūrama deliver a wide range of youth programmes, services and activities. These include youth employment support, mentoring, mental health and addiction services, creative workshops, youth development and a free, drop-in Youth Health Centre.
