Audiology Map

Audiologists are specialists at diagnosing hearing problems and the non-medical treatment of hearing loss. Treatment options include hearing aids, listening devices, counselling and education in listening skills. Contact a professional Audiologist in Rotorua to discuss your own or your family's audiology needs.

You can access funding to pay for your Audiologist treatment through ACC, Government Subsidies, Work and Income NZ and War Pensions as long as your audiologist is an approved service provider. Audiologists who are members of the New Zealand Audiological Society (MNZAS) are approved service providers.

Audiologists also work closely with a range of other Health professionals as they may need to refer patients on for further treatment in other areas of specilisation. Health professionals such as Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialists, General Practitioners, Speech Language Therapists to name a few. Discussing options with your Audiologist will help clarify any questions you may have.

About 50% of children with hearing loss do not have any of the risk factors for developing a progressive or delayed onset hearing loss. It's important to observe the behaviour of your child in response to their environment. Questions such as .... Do they startle, move, or cry to loud unexpected sounds? Are they alert to environmental sounds? Seem able to understand verbal questions or instructions? The behaviour will depend on the age of the child and whether it is appropriate for their age as each child develops differently.
