History & Heritage
Rowing has been a proud tradition in Rotorua since 1904, with the Rotorua Rowing Club officially incorporated in 1962. For over six decades, the club has been developing rowers of all ages and abilities, contributing to New Zealand's rich rowing culture whilst fostering community spirit on Lake Rotorua.
Location & Facilities
The club operates from the Rotorua Watersports Trust building, conveniently located on the city lakefront near the northern end of the scenic walkway. Members benefit from modern facilities including boat storage, changing rooms, and training equipment. The prime lakefront location provides easy access to excellent training waters.
Training Waters
Rowers train on the western side of Lake Rotorua, from the city centre past Ngongotahā township extending to the northern lake areas. These waters are generally shallow and safe, making them ideal for rowers at all stages of development, from complete beginners through to competitive athletes.
Membership Options
The club welcomes new members throughout the year. Prospective rowers are encouraged to attend trial sessions to meet coaches and current members before committing. Membership forms are available online, with flexible options for school students, adults, masters rowers, and community participants.
